Understanding the IBM Syllabus & Exam Test Pattern
IBM Syllabus 2025 & Exam Test Pattern. The syllabus and examination pattern for IBM placement tests are discussed in this article. Some websites are still containing the syllabus of number series, coding and verbal that is out of date. Therefore, do not trust any website for IBM syllabus updates as because IBM’s syllabus has been revised recently.
Eligibility Criteria for IBM:
- Education: Graduation and Post-Graduation – B.E/B.Tech with a minimum of 65% or CGPA of 6.5.
- Batch: 2025 (Candidates who have completed their educational degree and possess all semester mark sheets are eligible.)
- Backlogs: No current or past backlogs.
IBM Syllabus Pattern:
IBM syllabus and placement papers usually consist of multiple choice questions – MCQ, though few tests may also include coding questions or computer programming tasks as well. The specific test determines the number of questions and time allotted, but most IBM placement exams give candidates from 90-120 minutes to complete them.

IBM Test Pattern 2025:
Online Written Test (Round 1)
There will be two parts in this round each having an elimination criterion.
- IBM Coding Test
- IBM English Language Test
Group Discussion (Round 2)
- GD or Group Discussion
Interview (Round 3)
- HR + Technical
IBM Detailed Syllabus:
Cognitive Ability Games:
The games are designed to test the candidate’s abilities through six mini-games. This test does not contain any of those direct questions.
Note: The latest IBM Placement Paper pattern does not include Cognitive Ability Games.
Assess Problem Solving:
- Shortcuts: Move the blue marble to the starred area without hitting obstacles.
- Gridlock: Rotate pieces and put them in places on a grid so that it is completely filled up.
- Resemble: Use given building blocks to construct an image.
Assess Numerical Reasoning:
- Tally Up: Identify tokens with the highest value from a group of tokens.
- Numbubbles: Burst the bubble, whose equation is equal to target number
Assess Verbal Knowledge:
- Proof it: Find misspelled words or punctuation errors within a time limit.
Psychometric Test:
No specific syllabus; it measures work personality traits such as collaboration, attitude and work ethic. Students are eliminated when they give responses which show their personal choices.
Candidate need to answer options as mentioned:

IBM English Language Test:
It is the Final round assesses as English proficiency in these test they can get your ability through the section:
- Active/Passive Voice
- Fill in the Blanks
- Spotting Errors
- Spelling
- Synonyms,
- Antonyms,
- Prepositions and Conjunctions,
- Tenses and Articles

Coding Section:
(I) Coding section on HackerRank consists of two types of questions:
- Strings, arrays and other coding related question
We are given two numbers in the decimal and hexadecimal that we need to compare. If there is a similarity between them, we are supposed to print “EQUAL” else as they differ we print “NOT EQUAL.” We also take care of incorrect input.
(II) Multiple choice questions (MCQ) 5-6 based on subjects such as
- DBMS, OS, OOPS and programming concepts.

Interview Round:
The interview round is a blend of technicalities and HR.
Technical Round:
Questions can touch on various subjects including but not limited to the following;
- Structures for storing data
- Ways to perform Algorithms
- Managing database systems
- System software techniques
- How computers are connected together
- Fundamentals associated with OOPFor your language programming itself you choose what you want.
Note: It varies depending on the panel.
HR Round:
Most common queries are;
- Tell me about yourself?
- Which is the subject you like most? And why?
- Why do you want to work for IBM?
- Can you consider working with another organization apart from this one?
- Do you mind working during shifts?
- Discuss some topics that were involved in your project.
